Top 10 Tips On How To Take Care Of Blonde Hair

Tip 1: Selected The Corrected Shampoo And Conditioner

When it comes to maintaining blonde hair, you must invest in a shampoo and conditioner meant for all your hair care needs. As a blonde, you might feel your hair lacks moisture or feels damaged if you are someone who bleaches your hair.

Using a colour-safe, moisturizing, reparative shampoo and conditioner like the Olaplex No. 4 and No. 5 will help keep your hair healthy and strong. When you bleach your hair, the bonds within your hair break; however, with the help of this shampoo and conditioner duo, it will help to rebuild the bonds within your hair back. Rebuilding the bonds within your hair will reduce breakage, eliminate frizz, increase hair strength and shine.

Tip 2: Use a Purple Shampoo

Even though you might be using a great shampoo and conditioner to help maintain the health of your blonde hair, from time to time, you may feel like your blonde hair gets brassy or yellow. This is common for my blonde hair girls!

A few reasons why your blonde hair is brassy/yellow:

  • The toner used to achieve that ashy sandy blonde look is washing out.

  • Blonde hair is more porous. Therefore, your hair will absorb things like minerals and products. This will make your hair appear more warm-toned.

To help maintain your dyed blonde hair and reduce the appearance of warm tones, start to incorporate a purple shampoo into your blonde hair care routine. The purple shampoo will help neutralize the yellow tones in your hair.

One of the best purple shampoos on the market right now is Fanola No Yellow Shampoo. This is a highly pigmented purple shampoo that should not be left on the hair for a long period of time. A little of this product goes a long way, and you will definitely see faster results after 2-3 washes when using this purple shampoo.

Pro tip: Only use purple shampoos 2-3 times a month. These shampoos can dry out your hair if you are using them too often.

Tip 3: Give Your Blonde Hair Some TLC With A Hair Treatment

The Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector is a great treatment that will maintain your hair’s overall health. This product concentrated formula sinks deep into the hair’s cuticles to help rebuild the bonds of each hair strand. By ceiling back down your hair stands cuticles, the hair is less frizzy, stronger, and easier to manage. It’s like you are getting a salon treatment at home!

Tip 4: Keep It Hydrated

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! It’s so important to keep your hair hydrated. Whether you are a natural blonde or bleach your hair to achieve your desired blonde look, you must keep up with hydrating your hair.

The easiest way to add hydration to your hair is to add a leave-in conditioner into your blonde hair care routine. A leave-in conditioner will help lock in moisture to your hair until you go to wash it the next time.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat & UV Protective Primer is a great leave-in conditioner for all hair types. However, this product is perfect for blonde hair. There are six feather-light oils in this product. Each of these oils will help hydrate your hair, protect against breakage, help with detangling, and so much more!

Tip 5: Be Mindful When Heat Styling

When heat styling your hair as a blonde, you have to be mindful of three main factors.

1. How often are you using hot tools on your hair?
You should only be using heat on your hair once a week or twice a week if you absolutely have to. After you have heat styled your hair once, you should not be touching up your hair with a hot tool till the next time you wash it. If you, for some reason, have to touch up your hair, lower the heat settings on your hair tool.

2. What heat setting are you using on your hair?
The lower the heat the better it is for your blonde hair. Even if you have thick, course blonde hair, you should try your best and use a heat setting lower than 360 F.

3. What type of hair tools are you using?
You want to ensure that you are using higher-quality hair tools. If you are using hair tools that are made out of metal, it can cause more damage to your hair. Metal hair tools do not distribute heat evenly throughout the hair. This can cause more damage to your hair in the long run. Stick to hair tools that are made up of ceramic, tourmaline, or titanium. These metals heat up evenly, giving consistent heat throughout the hair.

Tip 6: Style With Care

Blonde hair is more fragile, especially when you bleach it more often to maintain your beautiful blonde colour. To help maintain the integrity of your hair, add heat protection to your hair before heat styling.

An amazing heat protector like the Bumble and Bumble Heat Shield Thermal Protection Mist is an excellent heat protector for blondes! Before you go in with any hot tools, spray the products to the ends of your clean, dry hair. It will help to prevent any further heat damage, reduce frizz, and improve the hair’s elasticity.

Tip 7: Keep It Safe From Hard Water

Out of all things that can cause harm to your blonde hair, hard water is actually one of them. Depending on the area you live in, the water you use to wash your hair might have a higher mineral content.

When you have a higher mineral content within your water, it can cause blonde hair to appear damaged or dry. It can always cause blonde hair to have a green or orange tint to your hair.

To help prevent this from happing, you want to invest in a shower head filter. This shower head attachment will filter out the minerals in your water that are causing damage or unwanted tones in your hair.

Tip 8: Do Not Overdo Your Hair With Bleach

Constantly bleaching your hair every four to six weeks can be one of the main reasons why your hair is so damaged. Your hair can only handle so much bleach at a time. Extending the time frame in between bleaching sessions can really make a huge difference to your hair health. Going every four to six months inside of every four to six weeks can be a game-changer to your wallet and hair.

Tip 9: Keep Up With Your Haircuts

One of the most important things that you can do to ensure you keep your hair as healthy as possible is by getting a trim after you get your hair bleached. This will allow your ends to be sealed in and increase your hair’s chance of less breakage. Also, you should be keeping up with your hair trims every 3-4 months if you are bleaching it often.

Tip 10: Find A Colorist You Love

Picking a colorist that you love is extremely important when it comes to going blonde. You want to ensure that the colorist is always thinking about what’s best for the health of your hair. Check the colorist’s work on their Instagram, see if they are using a bonding agent through the bleaching process, and more importantly, make sure they are never overlapping bleach onto compromised hair. Following these tips will help to ensure you are getting great results along with healthy hair.
